No matter what this unpredictable year has presented homeowners and their families, Christmas is just around the corner and it’s time to celebrate! The end-of-the-year holiday season always provides excitement and comfort and many are ready to get started spreading tidings of comfort and joy. With more families opting to celebrate safely at home this year, why not get started on decorating to truly get in the spirit?
If you have a home with a brick exterior, you are already primed for a gorgeous Christmas estate that will dazzle all those who visit and pass by. Whether you love to go all out with your decorations or create a low-maintenance design that will be easy to take down, a dose of holiday cheer will do us good to end the year on a high note. Here are some of our favorite tips for making your brick exterior shine this Christmas:
Utilize Natural Elements – Since organic North Georgia Brick is made from all-natural materials, lean into this theme by utilizing other pieces of nature in your décor! Beautiful green wreaths will pop against a red brick exterior and bring to mind the traditional Christmas color combination. Grapevine wreaths also look wonderfully rustic with burlap ribbon, and you can add pine sprigs for a pop of color. In fact, fresh greenery in the form of cedar and pine sprigs, as well as holly berries and pinecones, can be added to any of your décor for a natural touch. Whether real or faux, evergreen, birch, and eucalyptus branches paired with berries can be used throughout your decorations to emphasize the great outdoors this wintertime.
Hanging Lights on Brick Homes – No matter what color Christmas light strands that you want to hang this year, there are a couple of ways to successfully light up a brick home. For a quick fix, you can use a hot glue gun to glue light strands on top of brick walls and later use rubbing alcohol to remove the lights. You can also purchase brick clips with built-in hooks that will secure over individual bricks that stick out with enough space to attach the clips to. If you intend to hang Christmas lights in similar places over the years, you may want to very carefully drill into the mortar to establish screw hooks and wall plugs. Make sure to check with your HOA before you make any plans and double-check that your idea for lights is within the neighborhood guidelines.
Christmas Luminaries – For an ethereal winter glow, consider decorating with luminaries along your brick stairs, pathways, porches, or walls. These dazzling decorating lamps can be purchased or easily created, and lighting them can become a fun daily tradition for your family during the holidays. Our favorite version is created by taking sturdy glass vases and tucking a pillar candle into each. Garnish each luminary with fake snow and fresh greenery and your brick entrance will illuminate the winter nights with a magical feel.
Merry Mailboxes – We all enjoy sending and receiving Christmas cards every year, so it’s only right that our brick mailboxes get the full Christmas treatment. At the very least, a satin Christmas bow will help spruce up your mailbox. However, if you have a square brick mailbox, consider using the flat top to create a holiday arrangement that uses winter plants and tucked-in ornaments that match the color of your Christmas decorations at the front door. Chances are, you won’t even need to purchase anything to pull together a quick look for your mailbox!
Outdoor Fireplaces – Why should our interiors get all of the fun? If your family has enjoyed gathering by your outdoor brick fireplace this year, it’s only fitting to decorate this special space for Santa’s arrival as well! Stockings, lights, greenery, and tinsel are all the usual elements of an exquisitely decorated fireplace, and your outdoor space will feel like an extension of your warm interior. Get a roaring flame going, and plenty of hot chocolate, and have a Christmas carol singalong under the stars! We can’t wait to see what your Christmas decorations look like this year! Combine your family’s favorite ideas and create a holiday scene that’s all your own.
