Why build with brick

Brick Outperforms Every Other Building Material

Brick has been the preferred material for residential construction for thousands of years. Here's what the numbers say.

Lasts 500+ years

No other common building material comes close. Brick doesn't rot, warp, or need replacing — it holds its structure and color for generations.

Cuts energy bills ~20%

Brick's thermal mass stores heat in winter and cool air in summer. Properly insulated brick homes save around 20% annually on heating and cooling costs.

Fire resistant

Clay bricks are kiln-fired to 2,000°F and are non-combustible. A brick home takes roughly 90 minutes for fire to breach — vs. minutes for vinyl siding.

Adds home value

Brick homes consistently appraise higher and appreciate faster than comparable non-brick construction. Brick also raises the appraised value of the surrounding neighborhood.

Zero maintenance

No painting, staining, sealing, or treatment required. Brick holds its look without ongoing upkeep — saving real money and time over the life of your home.

Eco-friendly

100% natural, recyclable, and reusable. Brick can contribute up to 11 LEED points toward green building certification — one of the most sustainable materials available.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does brick last?

The average lifespan of a building made from natural clay brick is 500 years or more. It doesn't rot, warp, or fade the way wood, vinyl, or stucco do over time.

Is brick fire resistant?

Yes. Clay bricks are kiln-fired to around 2,000°F and are non-combustible. According to the Brick Industry Association, it takes roughly 90 minutes for fire to breach a brick home — compared to under an hour for fiber cement and just minutes for vinyl siding.

When should I use thin brick instead of full brick?

Full brick is structural and is typically used for home exteriors and new construction. Thin brick is a covering — lighter, more affordable, and ideal for interior renovations, accent walls, or any project where you want the look without adding load to the structure.

Will my brick fade over time?

Unlike concrete, brick does not fade. Over time, environmental exposure can make it look dirty, but with basic cleaning using BIA-recommended techniques, it can be restored to its original appearance.
